The Majestic Theatre opened in 1915 and was located in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood. The following pictures, taken in 1918, offer a glimpse of the Majestic Theatre's exterior (right part of pictures). The crowd is gathered for the formal opening of a new municipal street railway line.

In 1922, the theatre was remodeled and a 2/4 Robert Morton theatre organ was installed. Re-opening night was Friday, November 3rd (see flier below). Current status of the organ is unknown.

The Majestic Theatre was renamed the Roxy in the early 1940s

In the early 1940's, the theatre operated for several years as the Roxy. After WWII, the theatre was renamed the Bay. At the time of its closing in 1998, the theatre had the distinction of being the nation's oldest, regularly operating movie theatre.

Seattle businessman Ken Alhadeff purchased the Bay in 1998 with the intention of restoring it. Unfortunately, the old building did not meet fire and earthquake codes and had to be demolished. Mr. Alhadeff built a new theatre called the "Majestic Bay" on the same site. Slated to open in Summer 2000, the new theatre will feature nostalgic decor with an art deco nautical theme.
